No Final Four for Ann Wauters

Final Four and Ann Wauters.

The event and player seem to go hand-in-hand.

And it seems that in every recent Final Four, you can count on looking in a team roster to see the name Ann Wauters.
To be exact, 2007 was the seventh consecutive time that the Belgian international was among the semi-finalist teams.

But not this year.
It is the first time in 8 years that Ann will not be participating in the final four event.
CSKA was knocked out by Ekaterinburg in the 1/4 finals.
Ann finished the Euroleague season with strong numbers.
13 games played: Averaging 31', 17,7 pts(94/137, 68,6%) and 9,1reb.

Ann her reaction:
I am obviously very disappointed. The Final Four has always been my main goal of the season.
We were undefeated before playing the 1/4 finals.
Everybody was surprised that we had to play against UMMC but that is no excuse. They have played great against us and deserve their spot in the F4.
We have to try to overcome this as a team. Also need to analyse what went wrong. It will be very hard to focus on the rest of the season. We have the Cup of Russia and the Russian Championship ahead of us.
But there was always this extra motivation to work hard and prepare for the Final Four.
This is the first time in 8 years that I won't be playing the Final Four. It is hard for everyone,players, coaches, owner and management. CSKA was expected to qualify. But this is sports.

De Final Four en Ann Wauters gaan hand in hand.
Ann speelde de laatste 7 final four tornooien. Het is haar dit jaar niet gelukt om de 8ste opeenvolgende final four te spelen.
CSKA werd verrast door Ekaterinburg. Ekaterinburg won de 1/4 finales in twee wedstrijden.
Ann eindigt het Eurliga seizoen met sterke stats:
13 wedstrijden gespeeld: Averaging 31', 17,7 pts(94/137, 68,6%) and 9,1reb.

Ann haar reactie:
Ik ben natuurlijk heel erg ontgoocheld. De Final Four spelen is mijn doel, elk jaar opnieuw.
Maar dit jaar werden we verrast door Ekaterinburg in de 1/4 finales. UMMC schakelde ons uit in 2 wedstrijden. Ze speelden twee goede wedstrijden en verdienen hun plaats in de F4.
We moeten ons nu concentreren op de Russische beker en competitie. Het zal niet makkelijk zijn om ons op andere doelen te richten. We zijn het gewoon om naar de Final four toe te trainen...
Het is de eerste keer in 8 jaar dat ik geen Final Four zal spelen.
Het is een ontgoocheling voor ons allen, speelsters, coaches, eigenaar en management. Maar dit is sport!
